Books: Your Best Travel Partner
“Book.” It may look like one of the simplest words that comes to your mind.
But this simple word can hold an entire universe.
Not the universe of stars, planets, and galaxies that you see around you, but the universe of everything that exists within it. A little, non-living, portable object that you can hold in your hands can carry more than even a huge loading truck could possibly hold.
A book can carry centuries. It can carry the thoughts of someone who lived long before you were born. It can take you into places you may never visit, introduce you to people who never existed, or help you understand people and lives very different from your own.
And sometimes, without you even realising it, a book changes you.
Not every book will do that. But a good book can.
You can wear the most beautiful clothes or carry the most expensive accessories, and they may make an impression on someone’s eyes. But what you gain from a good book stays with you in a different way. It quietly becomes a part of your thoughts, your understanding, your conversations, and eventually, your personality.
The knowledge, imagination, questions, and perspectives you receive from books are invisible—but perhaps they are the loudest things you can carry.
Your clothes and accessories can tell people what you are wearing.
But the books you read can slowly reveal who you are.
And perhaps that is why a book is never just a book.
It can also change the way you see the world—and the way you travel through it.
Travelling itself is a higher level of education. It is a book that demands not just your sight and attention, but all your senses. It is a book that you experience with your body and soul.
Travelling experiences offer different perspectives to different travellers, but for an omnilegent, travelling can open entirely different horizons. They may understand the history, architecture, culture, people and way of life of a place more deeply. They set foot in a strange land with a strange sense of familiarity, as if they already belong to its air. They don’t just visit a place; they feel it, almost like a resident.
If you are abibliophobic, start your journey of reading while travelling. Pick a book that interests you and read it on the flight. I personally appreciate a bibliotaph too, because collecting books is better than collecting many other things. And someday, out of the blue, when you suddenly feel like reading, you have your own little treasure to choose from.
WTG recommends a list of books for all sorts of travellers and readers. Whether you want to read about the country you are planning to visit, want something to read on the flight to clear your head before starting your vacation, or you are simply a bookworm who can’t waste time while waiting for your flight, during the flight, or even over a meal—whatever your reason, we recommend interesting books on different topics.
Some may take you closer to a destination. Some may simply entertain you. Some may make you think. And some may stay with you long after you have finished reading them.
Because sometimes, a journey begins long before you reach your destination.
So, where will your reading journey take you? Explore our handpicked selection of books and find a companion for your next journey.
